John Skvarla joined Nexsen Pruet following two years as Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce. His service to that agency came following two years of service as Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
John’s experience includes the areas of mergers and acquisitions; entrepreneurial and early stage company growth; operational organization, and, every facet of economic development. He also sits on a variety of company Boards of Directors.
Before working for North Carolina State Government, John was a highly successful business executive. He led an environmental mitigation firm, a manufacturer of waste management and recycling systems, one of the largest physical therapy providers in the Southeastern U.S., as well as the world's largest all-cargo airline.
In the 1970's, he founded and served as senior partner to the Raleigh-based Wyrick Robbins Yates & Ponton firm. His legal work at that time focused on corporate and tax matters, as well as public and private capital formations.
