Jimmy Long never loses focus on making sure that his business and individual clients are fully represented in whatever Court that the client needs assistance. He has tried cases to verdict in Federal Court, State Circuit Court, the Administrative Law Court and Family Court. He has won numerous cases at the Motion stage and recognizes the importance of Mediation to obtain the best result for the client.  Jimmy has many years of experience defending health care providers in negligence cases involving serious injury, suicide, and wrongful death.  He has also represented providers in Certificate of Need litigation involving practically every service regulated in the State Health Plan.  He has a robust appellate practice having argued appeals before the South Carolina Supreme Court and South Carolina Court of Appeals.

Finally, Jimmy Long's leadership is critical to the success of Nexsen Pruet.  He served as the firm's General Counsel providing counsel and advice to firm management and lawyers on a wide range of issues.

  • Jimmy has been the lead trial attorney in numerous multi-week trials in the past several years and usually finds himself as the lead trial lawyer in a significant trial at least once per year.
  • Jimmy has been the lead attorney in certificate of need cases involving open heart surgery, linear accelerators, hospital replacement or expansion, ambulatory surgery facilities, and most all of the services regulated in the State Health Plan.
  • Jimmy is well familiar with the State and Federal regulations and laws governing correctional medicine, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes having been the lead attorney in numerous wrongful death and negligence actions involving suicide attempts, elopement, falls, improper medication, improper admission, lack of supervision, and section 1983.
  • Jimmy was the lead attorney in two of the longest trials in the history of the South Carolina Administrative Law Court in February and March of 2006 and January and February of 2011. See the opinion here.
  • Jimmy argued and briefed in the South Carolina Supreme Court  an eight year old case  involving competing Certificate of Need applications for Cancer Radiation Therapy Centers. 
  • Jimmy argued and briefed in the South Carolina Supreme Court the case that addressed whether physical therapists may continue to be employed by referring physicians. (i.e. whether POPTS are legal in South Carolina). See the opinion here.
  • Jimmy led a team of lawyers who tried to verdict a substantial breech of trust case in Federal Court in which he obtained a verdict against a corporate trustee in excess of 1.4 million dollars.
  • Jimmy represented the corporate defendants in litigation over the hackings of personal identities at the South Carolina Department of Revenue.  Jimmy's client was dismissed by the court after briefing and argument.
  • Jimmy has represented hundreds of individuals in Family Court cases involving complex financial issues, alimony and children.
  • Jimmy defended a trucking company in a triple fatality wrongful death action pending for over 13 years.
  • Jimmy led a team of attorneys in negotiating the resolution of a multi-million dollar domestic case.
  • Jimmy successfully tried a negligent misrepresentation case involving the partition of a real estate tract at the South Carolina coast.
  • After 15 hours of mediation, Mr. Long successfully resolved the defense of a negligent misrepresentation case arising from the multi-million dollar sale of a business.
  • Jimmy was the lead attorney in a complex probate matter that involved simultaneous actions in the Probate Court, Circuit Court and the Court of Appeals.
  • Jimmy has mediated over 50 domestic relations disputes and drafted dozens of pre-nuptial agreements.
  • Jimmy typically has cases pending in the  Appellate Courts, Administrative Law Court, Circuit Court, and Family Court each year.

Although Jimmy is a seasoned litigator, his favorite courts are the ones with basketball hoops.  He has coached a girls church league basketball team for years. He is also a long time owner in both a Fantasy Football League and a Fantasy Baseball League.
