George Smith is based out of the firm's Raleigh office, where he practices in the areas of economic development, local government, and state and local taxation. George's economic development practice focuses on representing companies seeking to relocate or expand operations in the region, including site selection and negotiating with the state and local officials on economic development incentives. His experience also includes representing local and regional economic development programs on regulatory and public policy matters. For tax-related matters, George concentrates on representing companies and individuals before the North Carolina Property Tax Commission, administrative and regulatory boards and commissions, and the General Assembly and Executive branch. Additionally, George has significant experience in commercial real estate, financial services, and general corporate matters.

When out of the office, George enjoys spending time outside - playing tennis, golfing, fishing, and hiking in the woods. Several summers ago, he hiked over 200 miles on the Appalachian Trail. George has also recently developed a passion for cooking. On the weekends, he loves firing up the grill and cheering the Wolfpack (NCSU) to victory.
