Upstate Highway Patrol commander Capt. Donald E. Dickerson and Pickens County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chuck James received Billy Wilkins Awards this week.
Dickerson was selected for the Excellence in Law Enforcement award for Greenville County and James for the Excellence in Law Enforcement for Pickens County. In reporting on the recognitions, Romondo Dixson of The Greenvile News wrote:
The Billy Wilkins Awards began in 1984 in honor of former Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Billy Wilkins and is presented to law enforcement officers who have exhibited "outstanding attributes in performance of his or her duties both in the field and in the courtroom," the Solicitor's Office said.

William W. “Billy” Wilkins is former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He leads Nexsen Pruet’s White-Collar Crime, Appellate Advocacy, and Corporate Compliance/Crisis Management practices.
Wilkins is the recipient of many honors and awards including being recognized by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics for his leadership role in this field. For four consecutive years, he was named by Greenville Business Magazine as one of the most influential people in Greenville and one of the Upstate's leading lawyers. In 2015, he was selected by the publication as a top attorney for Governmental Affairs.
