Nexsen Pruet member (partner) Ernie Pearson issued the following statement today, following the death of former North Carolina Governor Jim Holshouser:
North Carolina lost its elder statesman today.
Governor Holshouser was the youngest person ever to become Governor of North Carolina, but even on day one, Jim certainly didn't act like a youngster. He had a knack for putting people at ease and getting things done.
A few of the accomplishments that are still having a positive impact on the state include the consolidation of senior colleges and universities into the University of North Carolina System, capital improvement funding for the N.C. Community College System and implementation of statewide enrollment for kindergarten.
He was a true friend and mentor and although I will miss him greatly, I take great pride in having known and worked with him so closely for so many years. He was one of the best men I’ve ever known.
