Harper Heckman Elected a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers

Harper Heckman, Nexsen Pruet Member and Chair of the firm's Construction practice group, was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers.

The prestigious group is limited to approximately 200 lawyers from the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, and France. Selection is based on skill, experience and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice, or in the teaching, of construction law, and who are dedicated to excellence in the specialized practice of construction law.

Harper’s legal abilities and knowledge of industry issues have earned him a number of additional recognitions throughout the years. In 2015, Harper was elected chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Forum on Construction Law, the largest group of construction lawyers in the world. In 2016, he was inducted into the Legal Elite "Hall of Fame" as the state's category winner for construction law. In Best Lawyers in America, he was named Greensboro's 2018 Lawyer of the Year for Construction Litigation (also included in 2013) and Greensboro's 2017 Lawyer of the Year for Construction Law. He is also a past Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's Construction Law Section and the Contract Documents Division of the ABA's Forum on Construction Law. In addition to his practice, Harper is an NCDRC Certified Superior Court Mediator, a member of the American Arbitration Association Large and Complex Panel of Neutrals, and an adjunct professor of Construction Law at the University of North Carolina School of Law.

The American College of Construction Lawyers is an invited association of construction law practitioners, professors, and judges. Founded in 1989, its mission is to improve and enhance the practice and understanding of construction law and to promote the positive role of lawyers as "friends of the project." The College’s professional meetings, educational programs, and publications bring together outstanding construction law and industry experts. The College publishes its Journal of the American College of Construction Lawyers.
