"City of Columbia crafting new social media policy for city employees"

WIS News Columbia

July 21, 2016

WIS News reported on July 21, 2016 about the City of Columbia's effort to create a new social media policy, which is expected to be rolled out in the upcoming weeks. The television station called on Nexsen Pruet's William Floyd, a certified Labor & Employment Law specialist, for insight into what goes into creating such policies.

Floyd told reporter Caroline Patrickis that there is a difference between public and private businesses:

"A public employee is working on behalf of the fellow citizen so they hold a position of trust. When you draft that policy, you need to reflect that in the policy. Yes, they have the right of free speech but the right of free speech does have some limits in a public employee setting."

William H. Floyd III represents employers of all sizes and across the spectrum of industries with important labor and employment problems. His goal is to reduce legal risks by conducting interactive training for management teams, creating effective personnel policies, and counseling clients through human resource issues.
