Burnie Maybank Provides Insight on Tax Law Change Impacting SC Manufacturers

Burnie Maybank was quoted extensively in the Post & Courier article, “Some SC manufactures rethinking tax deals amid law change.” After state lawmakers passed a new law that decreased property tax rate, many manufacturers began reevaluating their approaches to economic development deals. Burnie discussed the perspectives of companies and possible outcomes given the changes.

Maybank said the novelty of the tax law changes means the lawyers negotiating incentive deals likely haven't yet seen the full impact of the adjustments. But he said he's been advising his clients seeking smaller deals, those in the investment range of $15 million or less, they're likely better off without them. 

"The companies don't want to fool with them," Maybank said
