Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center
While it may take a village to raise a child, in our experience, it takes a city to raise a convention center.
Nexsen Pruet attorneys were instrumental in constructing the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, as the deal required significant coordination between multiple public and private parties. Three local governments and a school district had a financial stake in the project, and the University of South Carolina was also involved in the land assemblage.
A team of Nexsen Pruet Columbia attorneys entered the project at the conceptual stage to aid a citizens group obtain funding for the project. Our attorneys worked with all of the stakeholders, and provided comprehensive project services including creating an intergovernmental organization, arranging for extremely favorable tax-free financing, completing a very complex land acquisition, designing innovative construction procedures and assisting with a myriad of contractual matters.
The 2004 grand opening of the Convention Center was the first of many successful events at this 142,500 square foot, $40,000,000 facility.
We were thrilled when the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center welcomed their one-millionth visitor on January 7, 2011, knowing we were part of the team responsible for a facility bringing over 100,000 visitors Center annually since 2005.
