Nexsen Pruet member (partner) Bob Coble is recovering at Providence Hospital in Columbia following coronary bypass surgery. Doctors successfully completed the procedure early Thursday morning.
First responders transported Coble from the Capitol complex to the hospital Wednesday afternoon. A heart catheterization revealed blockages. Doctors determined that Coble had suffered a heart attack and that surgery was necessary. Coble’s medical team is providing post-op treatment at this hour.
Coble’s son, Daniel, is the family spokesman and issued this statement Thursday morning.
“Our family wants to thank everyone in the Midlands and across the state who has reached out with well wishes and prayers. We also thank the health care professionals here at Providence for their tireless work to save Dad’s life. While we are not yet “out of the woods,” we are convinced that with top-notch health care and continued prayer -- “Mayor Bob” will be back to playing with the grandkids, and politicians, soon.”
Bob Coble served as Mayor of the City of Columbia for 20 years before turning to his law and lobbying practice full-time in 2010. Accolades bestowed upon him during his distinguished career include: The Order of the Palmetto, Woodrow Wilson Award for Leadership in Historic Preservation and "Ambassador of the Year" from the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
