Nexsen Pruet Expands Tax Practice Group; Briani Bennett Mellen Joins Firm as Associate Columbia June 22, 2010

Nexsen Pruet is pleased to announce that Briani Bennett Mellen has joined the firm’s Tax Group as an associate. She practices in the firms offices on Main Street in Downtown Columbia.
Mrs. Bennett Mellen is a graduate of the New York University School of Law where she earned an LL.M. in Taxation and the University of South Carolina School of Law where she earned her law degree.
Her practice will focus in these areas:
- Federal and state income taxation
- Estate planning and administration
- Federal estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning
- Closely-held business succession
While attending NYU School of Law, Mrs. Bennett Mellen served as a graduate editor on the Tax Law Review. While at USC School of Law, she was a member of the South Carolina Law Review and received honorary society membership admissions to the Order of the Coif and Order of the Wig and Robe.
After law school, Mrs. Bennett Mellen clerked for the Honorable Joseph F. Anderson, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. She was an associate at Culp Elliott & Carpenter, PLLC, in Charlotte, North Carolina, prior to joining the firm. During her practice of law, she has written extensively on matters involving trust administration, with a particular emphasis on trust decanting.
