"Several hundred people attended forum on HOA bill" Myrtle Beach The Sun News October 14, 2009

The Sun News interviewed Nexsen Pruet attorney Brian Kernaghan for an October 14th article entitled "Several hundred people attended forum on HOA bill."
At issue is The South Carolina Homeowners' Association Act. The bill was introduced in the South Carolina Senate and is expected to be debated in the next legislative session.
The paper reports that "the bill would require associations to make their financial records for the past three years available to members, limit annual increases on assessments and allow the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs to mediate disputes" as well as pay "$10 a year per property."
Kernaghan told the paper he does not believe the legislation is right way to move forward. "Do we need legislation? I think we really do, to address these types of concerns but I don't believe we need this kind of act."
Brian F. Kernaghan practices in the areas of real estate, real estate planning, real estate development, taxation and business. |
