"Immigration audits concern businesses"

Charleston Regional Business Journal    August 18, 2009

Nexsen Pruet attorney David Dubberly is interviewed for a Charleston Regional Business Journal article entitled "Immigration audits concern businesses."

Ashley Fletcher Frampton's reports that "investigators visited 76 companies last month" as they began to check compliance with the South Carolina Illegal Immigration Reform Act. Although the random audits have resulted in no violations, there is concern that the Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation may be going to far.

Dubberly told the CRBJ  that because the new "law didn’t even go into effect until July 1... the state doesn’t have the legal authority to be looking at people hired before July 1, in our opinion.”   Click here to read the full article.

David Dubberly is the chair of Nexsen Pruet's Employment and Labor Law Group.   He also co-chairs the firm's International Law Group.
