"Haley, Sheheen reveal their ideas to cure state's ailing economy" The Greenville News August 16, 2010

Nexsen Pruet attorney Burnie Maybank speaks to The Greenville News about the economic plans of gubernatorial candidates Nikki Haley and Vincent Sheheen.
The August 12th article is entitled "Haley, Sheheen reveal their ideas to cure state's ailing economy." Reporter Rudolph Bell looked at what the candidates "would do about one of the most pressing of voter concerns how to roll back South Carolina's 10.7 percent unemployment rate, seventh-highest in the nation in June."
Maybank told Bell that when it comes to economic development, the state Commerce Department needs to have cash available. "For recruiting medium to large businesses, by far the biggest economic development tool now is just plain hard dollars," said Maybank. He also noted that the department used to have a "closing fund" but that has been eliminated.
Burnie Maybank is a member of Nexsen Pruet's financial services and economic development groups. He served as Director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue from 1995 to 1999 and 2003 to 2005. |
