Seven Nexsen Pruet Attorneys Become Members of the Firm January 1, 2003
Columbia, SC -NEXSEN PRUET JACOBS & POLLARD, LLC announced today that 7 of its attorneys have become Members of the Firm.
The new Members, all of which have worked at Nexsen Pruet for several years, represent a diverse range of skill to Nexsen Pruet, including broad experience in health care, environmental, corporate and securities, labor and employment, banking and finance, and corporate and commercial litigation.
The new members are:
Jeanne M. Born. Jeanne Born practices on Nexsen Pruet's health care team and works in the firm's Columbia, S.C. office. She is a Registered Nurse with experience in general medical/surgical nursing, medical/surgical neurology, and nursing management. Born represents a wide variety of health care facilities and providers, including - but not limited to - hospitals, physicians, and long-term care facilities. She concentrates on client needs regarding compliance with the Administrative Simplification provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Born earned her J.D. degree cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she was Research Editor of the ABA Real Property Probate and Trust Journal.
John W. Davidson. John Davidson practices on Nexsen Pruet's construction and environmental teams and works in the firm's Columbia, S.C. office. He holds a B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Wofford College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. degree cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was Research Editor for the South Carolina Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif, Order of Wig and Robe, and the John Belton O'Neall Inn of Court. Davidson recently published an article on privileges for environmental audits in the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal.
C. Jones DuBose, Jr. Jones DuBose practices on Nexsen Pruet's corporate and securities teams and works in the firm's Columbia, S.C. office. He holds a B.S. degree, cum laude, in financial management from Clemson University. DuBose earned his J.D. degree, also cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was Associate Articles Editor for the South Carolina Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif, Order of Wig and Robe, and the John Belton O'Neall Inn of Court. Before joining Nexsen Pruet, DuBose served as a law clerk to the Honorable Karen J. Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Regina Hollins Lewis. Regina Lewis practices on Nexsen Pruet's Labor and Employment and Litigation teams and works in the firm's Columbia, S.C. office. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of South Carolina and her J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. She practiced in Maryland for 12 years in the areas of general civil litigation, domestic law, and criminal appeals in state and federal court. She was also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Maryland School of Law, where she taught Domestic Relations, and the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she was an instructor in the Family Law Clinic. In 1994, Lewis was appointed Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maryland, representing its agencies and employees in matters that included employment discrimination and prisoner's rights claims, and civil and criminal appeals in the Maryland appellate courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Ashely Steele Nutley. Ashley Nutley practices on Nexsen Pruet's banking and finance team and works in the firm's Greenville, S.C., office. Her practice concentrates on economic development, real estate and lending, and includes extensive experience representing a wide variety of banking and financial institutions on complex real estate, asset-based, commercial, construction, development and government lending transactions, as well as workouts and debt restructuring. She holds a B.A. degree in English from the College of William & Mary and a J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. She is currently President of the Rotary Club of Greenville East, a board member of The Hope Academy Foundation and a tutor in the Read with Me Program at Pelham Road Elementary School.
Matthew B. Roberts. Matthew Roberts practices on Nexsen Pruet's health care team and works in the firm's Columbia, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C., offices. His practice focuses on managed care issues, physician/hospital relationships, Stark/Anti-Kickback issues, fraud and abuse matters and healthcare litigation. Roberts earned his undergraduate degree in International Relations, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the South Carolina Law Review and of the Order of Wig and Robe. He is a frequent speaker on various health care issues in North and South Carolina and is a member of the Health Law Sections of the North and South Carolina Bars, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Healthcare Financial Managers Association.
Richard L. Tapp, Jr. Ric Tapp practices on Nexsen Pruet's corporate and commercial litigation teams and works in the firm's Charleston, S.C., office. He earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from The Citadel and his law degree and M.B.A. from The University of South Carolina. Tapp was the lead S.C. counsel for Landmark Land Company, Inc., in its precedent-setting $21.5 million verdict against the U.S. government arising from the savings and loan crisis. In 2001, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Sen. Glenn McConnell, appointed Tapp to the South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank Board. The bank selects and assists in financing major qualified projects by providing loans and other financial assistance to government units and private entities to construct and improve highway and transportation facilities necessary for public purposes.
