Maybank Joins Nexsen Pruet February 1, 1999
The law firm of Nexsen Pruet Jacobs & Pollard, LLP is pleased to announce that Burnet R. Maybank III, former Director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue and Taxation, has joined the firm as special counsel in its Charleston and Columbia offices. Mr. Maybank will concentrate on economic development, local and state tax issues, and administrative law. Mr. Maybank served as the first Director of the Department of Revenue and Taxation. He received his B.A. Degree from the University of North Carolina, his J.D. Degree from the University of South Carolina, and a LLM in Taxation Degree from Emory University. He also served as Deputy Securities Commissioner and General Counsel in the Secretary of State's Office; Legal Counsel to Governor Carroll Campbell; a Commissioner on the South Carolina Public Service Commission; and a member of the Board of DHEC. He served for three years as Chairman of the Enterprise Zone Subcommittee of the Coordinating Council for Economic Development.
Mr. Maybank is co-author of several books including Economic Development Incentives in South Carolina; Summary of South Carolina Not-for Profit Laws, 21.3 The Exempt Organization Tax Review (Sept. 98) and Limited Liability Companies published by the South Carolina Bar. He was the lead author of the three major economic development bills over the past four years, the Enterprise Zone Act, Rural Development Act, and the Fee-in-Lieu Simplification Act.
He received the Order of the Palmetto from both Governor Campbell and Governor Beasley, and also was the recipient of the Compleat Lawyer Award from the South Carolina Law School Alumni Association. |
