Brad Waring, John Emerson Win Compleat Lawyer Awards From USC Law School

COLUMBIA, SC - Bradish J. Waring and John F. Emerson, who practice in Nexsen Pruet's Charleston and Columbia offices, respectively, have been honored with the prestigious Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

The award recognizes USC law graduates who have made "a significant contribution to the legal profession" and exemplify "the highest standard of professional competence, ethics, and integrity."

Waring earned the Gold Award, which is given to lawyers who have been in practice between 15 and 29 years. Emerson received the Bronze Award, for attorneys practicing 14 years or less. They were honored October 21st at the Annual Alumni Dinner at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

"Brad and John are committed to improving our profession and their communities," said Neil C. Robinson, Jr., a member of Nexsen Pruet's executive committee. "They have built their careers and reputations on a foundation of service, skill, and character. That has brought great value to our bar, our firm and the clients we serve."

Waring practices in the business and consumer litigation group, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America for business litigation. He concentrates primarily on civil litigation in state and federal courts, with an emphasis on complex commercial litigation, including products liability, insurance coverage, and business litigation.

Active in the profession, he is president-elect of the South Carolina Bar and a member of the Bar's Board of Governors; a member of the board of the University of South Carolina Law School Partnership; and an ex-officio member of the Chief Justice's Commission on the Profession.

Emerson practices in the areas of employment law and business litigation. He is a member of the Section of Labor and Employment Law and of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, for which he has served in numerous leadership roles. He is also a member of the John Belton O'Neall Inn of Court and the Federal Bar Association.

Also deeply involved in the community, Emerson served as chairman of the S.C. Educational Television Commission from 2001-2004. He is currently a member of the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Central South Carolina; and formerly served as chairman of the Richland County Public Library Board of Trustees; and as president of the South Carolina Shakespeare Company Board of Directors.
