(Video)"Boeing opens new North Charleston assembly plant"

WCSC - Live 5 News    June 10, 2011

The Boeing Company hosted a ribbon-cutting for its new manufacturing facility  in North Charleston on June 10th.  Dozens of business and political leaders were on hand for the historic event.

South Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell was among those who addressed the crowd, which included hundreds of Boeing's new employees.  McConnell began his address by going back to the initial stages of talks with the company.

"I heard about being six months ahead of schedule.  The only time the Senate moved that fast was when we did the economic incentive legislation to make this possible.  It was just a few short years ago when we met at Nexsen Pruet and looked at the concept with the officials from Boeing.  Look what this State has achieved as a team.  There's no limit to what we can achieve when we work together, in this State, toward a common goal. "

In October of 2009, Nexsen Pruet's Economic Development team, led by Leighton Lord and Billy Wilkins, including Ric Tapp, Burnie Maybank and Stephanie Eames worked with Boeing officials to negotiate the incentives package approved by the South Carolina legislature.
