Healthy Learners Honors Nexsen Pruet Attorneys

March 31, 2010

Two Nexsen Pruet attorneys have been honored for their dedication to improving the health and well-being of children from economically disadvantaged families in South Carolina.

Matthew Roberts and Leighton Lord were presented with awards from Healthy Learners at a luncheon at Brookland Banquet and Conference Center in West Columbia on March 31st.

“Healthy Learners provides vision and dental care, hearing evaluations and other services to hundreds of needy children all across South Carolina each year,” said Roberts.  “I’m proud to support this Sisters of Charity ministry.”

Roberts, who leads the firm’s Health Care Practice Group, received the 2010 In All Things Charity Award.  He served as the Healthy Learners Board of Advisors Chair for 2008-2009, as an Advisory Board Member from 2002-2009, and as the George Younginer Memorial Golf Tournament 2009 Corporate Community Sponsorship Chair.

Lord, who is the firm’s former board chairman and current candidate for South Carolina Attorney General, was named a 2009 Healthy Learners Ambassador.  He served as chair Healthy Learners 2009 Annual Fund Campaign Committee.

Healthy Learners was founded in 1992 based on the belief that children learn better when they are healthy.  The charity has five programs that serve 139 schools across ten South Carolina school districts.  For more information, see www.healthylearners.com
