Charleston Regional Business Journal, WCIV News 4, WMBF News    November 7, 2009

On Friday November 6th, the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced the first contract for the new Boeing in North Charleston.

The Charleston Regional Business Journal reports that Boeing "awarded a design-build contract for its new Dreamliner assembly line to a joint venture between Charlotte-based BE&K Building Group, and Turner Construction, a New York firm that has enjoyed a long relationship with the aerospace manufacturer."   Click here to read Molly Parker's full report entitled "Boeing contract goes to trio with Upstate connections."

S.C. Governor Mark Sanford expects the construction of the facility to bring in 2000 jobs.  In a statement, Sanford said the jobs are ones "that will provide a much needed shot in the arm to our state's employment situation and economy in general.  More importantly, these jobs are immediate and not tied to incentives."  Click here to read more about that from Charleston's WCIV News 4.

Led by Leighton Lord and Billy Wilkins, the firm’s Economic Development team, including Ric Tapp, Burnie Maybank and Stephanie Eames worked with Boeing officials to negotiate the incentives package approved by the South Carolina legislature.
