Americam Heart Association Names Nexsen Pruet “Gold Start! Fit-Friendly Company” for 2nd Straight Year June 1, 2009

Nexsen Pruet has been named a “Gold Start! Fit-Friendly Company” by the American Heart Association (AHA) in recognition of its commitment to providing fitness and other health-oriented opportunities to employees.
It is the second consecutive year the firm has been honored. "Helping to keep our people healthy allows them to do the best job possible for our clients,” said Board Chairman Leighton Lord. “We are grateful that the American Heart Association has recognized us for our efforts to support the health and well being of our employees."
“You have not only recognized the importance of a healthy workplace for your employees but have taken important steps to create a culture of physical activity in the workplace,” the AHA said.
“Promoting a wellness culture by providing support to employees and implementing physical, nutritional, and cultural changes are extraordinary efforts, and we commend you and your employees.”
As part of the “Strides” program, Nexsen Pruet held a walk in honor of Mr. Julian Nexsen, one of the firm’s founders.
The firm’s focus on fitness is illustrated by the development of an innovative two-part wellness program aimed at encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyles.
In Phase 1, called “Strides,” participants earned Strides miles for various health-related activities, ranging from running and lifting weights to skipping soft drinks for a week; the miles could then be used for prizes such as iPods and gift certificates. Those who continued to pursue their fitness goals in Phase 2, called “Choices,” were able to avoid a firm-wide increase in employees’ insurance contribution.
The Fit-Friendly program was created as a catalyst for positive change in American businesses. Companies that earn the designation have demonstrated “progressive leadership by making the health and wellness of their employees a priority,” according to the AHA.
