The October 15th edition of The Greenville News features an article entitled "Greer woman settles suit against Target." Nexsen Pruet member (partner) Billy Wilkins represented her in the appeal.
The article begins - "A years-long, multimillion-dollar legal battle between Target Corp. and a Greer woman wrongly accused of trying to pass a counterfeit bill has ended after a federal appeals court dismissed the national superstore’s request to overturn a jury’s $3.1 million verdict against it."
In 2006, Rita Cantrell tried to pay with a $100 bill. A Target employee thought was fake and emailed dozens of business claiming she tried to use counterfeit money. Before determining that the bill was not fake, the U.S. Secret Service arrested Cantrell at her workplace.
