"With changes in telecom, North Carolina bill looks to remake playing field"

Triangle Business Journal    March 27, 2009

Nexsen Pruet attorney Tom Johnson offers insight in a Triangle Business Journal article entitled "With changes in telecom, North Carolina bill looks to remake playing field."

The article is about a bill in the North Carolina General Assembly.  The paper reports that "in the regulatory realm, the obligation to provide phone service in a given area rests squarely with Ma Bell’s legacy – the landline phone companies."  Johnson says cable companies are now "stepping into the shoes of the local exchange provider." If the bill passes, those companies may have to take on the additional responsibilities of being the “carrier of last resort.”

Johnson background in the telecommunications industry is broad-based and includes all matters related to placing wireless networks in North and South Carolina.
