Final Rule Issued about E-Verify

Washington, DC    U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services    November 20, 2008

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has issued a final rule on whether most federal contractors must prove that their employees are in the United States legally.  The rule, which was released last week,  mandates companies to use E-Verify.  The system compares employee information to electronic government records.

Click here for the full text of the 274-page rule.

Highlights:

  • It takes effect on January 15th, 2009.
  • Federal contracts of more than $100,000 are subject to the rule.
  • Federal subcontracts of more than $3000 are subject to the rule.
  • If the E-Verify information does not match, the employee has an opportunity to correct the paperwork.
