Michael J. Hickerson Joins Nexsen Pruet's Corporate Group

CHARLESTON, SC — Michael J. Hickerson has joined Nexsen Pruet’s growing legal team and will practice general corporate law in the firm's Charlesotn, SC office.  For Hickerson, this move is a return to his roots.

After graduating from the College of Charleston, Hickerson served as a firefighter and engineer with the St. Andrews Fire Department in Charleston where he was promoted three ranks in 15 months. He then attended and graduated from law school and began a successful career practicing law.

Prior to joining Nexsen Pruet, Hickerson worked with Haynes and Boone in Houston, TX, where he was member of the Financial Transactions Practice Group and represented borrowers and financial institutions in commercial loan transactions. In 2007, he was selected as a “Texas Rising Star” by Law and Politics and Texas Monthly magazines.

Hickerson’s experience includes working with banks, equity funds, and other lending institutions and borrowers in secured, syndicated, and sole lender transactions involving revolving loans, term loans, equity participations, and letters of credit secured by various collateral.

Additionally, he has handled a wide range of litigation matters, including consumer fraud claims, landlord/tenant disputes, nuisance claims, and property disputes. Hickerson has also represented secured lenders in lender liability claims and in collection actions after default by the borrower.

Hickerson earned his law degree, cum laude, from Tulane University Law School. He also earned a certificate in sports law from Tulane and was a member of the Tulane Law Review.
