May 31, 2006

Columbia, SC - Burnet ("Burnie") R. Maybank III, a Member of Nexsen Pruet and the former Director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue, was publicly recognized by a leading IRS Official.

Steven T. Miller, the Commissioner of Tax Exempt and Government Entities for the Internal Revenue Service, praised Maybank for his work between the state of South Carolina and the federal government.

Commissioner Miller recognized Maybank's efforts and stated, "And as an example of positive work between states and the Service, allow me to take a moment to express my admiration for Burnie Maybank, the former director of Revenue of South Carolina. He has been very involved in the issue of abuse of easements in his state."

Commissioner Miller made the comments at the March 28, 2006 Spring Public Lands Conference in Washington, D.C.

Maybank, who served as director of the Department of Revenue under Governor Mark Sanford and Governor David Beasley, focuses his practice on economic development, state and local tax controversy matters, and alcohol beverage control issues.
