Lord (L), Nexsen | COLUMBIA, SC - The Members of Nexsen Pruet, LLC have elected W. Leighton Lord III as the firm's chairman of the board.
Lord - a Member in the Columbia office - will assume the duties traditionally held by the managing partner. Additionally, he will be responsible for shaping the firm's strategy and vision in years to come.
"Leighton is a strong leader who reflects the values, integrity, character, and professionalism which have defined us since the firm was created in 1945," said Julian J. Nexsen, a longtime member of the firm. "He is part of a new generation of attorneys, and an ideal choice to link the traditions of our past with the opportunities of our future."
Lord praised Al Pollard, the firm's former managing partner, for his leadership during a period of exceptional growth.
"Al has been instrumental in making this firm what it is today," he said. "My goal is to continue building upon those achievements, while at the same time maintaining, and, whenever possible, expanding upon - our longstanding commitment to the community."
Lord concentrates his practice in real estate finance, real estate development and commercial transactions. A graduate of the University of Delaware and Vanderbilt Law School, he joined Nexsen Pruet in 1994.
Previously, he clerked for the prestigious Delaware Chancery Court before practicing corporate litigation in Wilmington, Del. Lord also served for three years as staff counsel to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
He is on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Venture Capital Fund, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, and the Board of Governors of the Palmetto Club.
