Christie Matthews Joins Business Litigation Group

Matthews previously served as a tax associate with Parker, Poe, Adams, and Bernstein in Charlotte, working in the areas of business and estate planning. She teaches business law at Strayer University and at the University of Phoenix South Charlotte Campus. Matthews is a former adjunct professor of international business law at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte.

Matthews' experience includes incorporating and organizing C corporations, S corporations, LLC's, LP's, and non-profits; advising non-profits on 501(c) (3) compliance; drafting wills and trusts involving multi-million-dollar estates; and representing large estates in the probate process.

Matthews earned her bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., and her J.D. from the Yale Law School where she served on the editorial board of the Yale Law and Policy Review. As an undergraduate, she interned in the homicide unit of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office and in the office of the Second Lady, Tipper Gore, in Washington.
