New Attorneys in Three South Carolina Offices

NEXSEN PRUET JACOBS & POLLARD LLC, has teamed up with an established former partner at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Bastianelli Brown & Kelly. Lawrence C. Melton has moved back to his home state of South Carolina, joined NEXSEN PRUET as a partner in the Firm's Columbia office, and started teaching at the University of South Carolina Law School. Melton has extensive experience in large construction project litigation, government contracting/procurement, and commercial litigation, representing a number of national clients.

Melton graduated from Tulane University in 1970 and from the University of London in 1973. He attended Washington and Lee University School of Law where he was a Note and Comment Editor for the law review. He received a Juris Doctor degree in 1976. Melton has presented seminars to the United States Department of Transportation and the SBA. He has also lectured on Insurance Law, Recovery against Design Professionals, conducted an Advanced Claims Seminar for Construction Education Management and published several practice related guides and articles.

In Greenville, patent attorney Andrew Pang has joined NEXSEN PRUET as Special Counsel on the Intellectual Property Team. NEXSEN PRUET is home of the State's largest "I-P" Team and Pang brings experience from both a law firm and corporate setting. He served as Intellectual Property Counsel for Clariant Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina, practiced with a boutique intellectual property firm as well as a major regional firm, and clerked with Motorola, Inc., in the Government and Space Technology Group. Pang's technical experience includes semiconductor devices, integrated circuits, software, computer networks, computer peripherals, satellite and telecommunication systems, microcontrollers, memory devices, polymer applications, automotive components, surfactant compositions, flame retardant additives, and wet chemical processes.

Andrew "Andy" Pang received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, with a technical emphasis in biomedical engineering and solid state technology, and his Juris Doctor from Franklin Pierce Law Center. He also completed post-graduate studies in business and chemical sciences. Pang is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, The Carolinas Patent Trademark Copyright Law Association, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers where he is Computer Society Section Chair, and The Carolinas Asian American Chamber of Commerce where he is Co-Chair of Legal Affairs. He is admitted in North Carolina and registered before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

In the Firm's Charleston office, Bruce Wallace and Christopher Ogiba have joined the Litigation Team. Bruce Wallace concentrates on Commercial Litigation. He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Virginia and he received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of Wig and Robe and Research Editor for the American Bar Association Real Property Probate and Trust Journal. Wallace clerked for the Honorable C. Weston Houck, Chief U.S. District Judge, DSC, 1996-98. Before joining Nexsen Pruet Wallace worked with his father, prominent Charleston attorney Robert Wallace.

Bruce Wallace is admitted to practice in the State of South Carolina and before the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is a native of Charleston and a member of the Exchange Club in Charleston.

Christopher "Chris" Ogiba is an Associate in the firm's Charleston office and he concentrates on Commercial Litigation. Ogiba has experience practicing along the East Coast. He came to Nexsen Pruet from Palmer & Dodge, LLP in Boston, MA. Ogiba holds a B.A. in Political Science from Haverford College and he received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Cornell Law School. Ogiba is a recipient of the W.W. Smith Prize at Haverford. Recipients exhibit exceptional academic achievement, strong leadership capabilities and character traits. Ogiba was also a Note Editor for The Cornell Law Review. A native of Watertown, New York, Ogiba is a member of the Boston Bar, the Massachusetts Bar, and the American Bar Associations. Both Ogiba and Wallace join the Firm as Associates.

In addition, two other attorneys have recently transferred to new practice teams in NEXSEN PRUET'S Charleston office. J. W. Nelson Chandler is working with the Labor and Employment team, focusing on employment litigation. An associate in the Firm, Chandler received his B.A. in History with a Concentration in Southern Studies from Davidson College, where he graduated magna cum laude, second honor graduate and he also spent a semester studying abroad at Oxford University, England. Mr. Chandler received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association.

T. Boutilier "Bo" Manuel is an associate now practicing on the Business team. Manuel focuses in the areas of land use regulation, real estate, corporate law and commercial finance. He received a B.A. in History from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of the Wig and Robe and the South Carolina Law Review. Mr. Manuel was a recipient of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association Scholarship and awarded the BLSA Real Property Tutorial Scholarship. Mr. Manuel is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association.
