Mr. Jackson works with health care clients, including large health systems, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, physician groups, physicians, independent practice associations, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospices and other health care providers on a wide variety of legal issues affecting their operations. 

He regularly advises clients in the following areas:

  • Fraud and abuse and other regulatory compliance, including compliance with the Stark Law, the Antikickback Statute and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act;
  • Hospital/physician relationships, including contract development and negotiation;
  • Managed care contract negotiation;
  • Simple and complex corporate transactions, including corporate formation issues, securities analyses, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions;
  • Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, including representation against CMS regarding overpayment appeals and Medicare Geographic Reclassification decisions;
  • False Claims Act allegations, Certificate of Need advise and litigation, and other health-care related litigation matters; and
  • Licensing and certification issues.

Mr. Jackson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries Biology from Clemson University.  He received his Masters in Health Administration (MHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina where he was President of the Student Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.  He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the Journal of International Law and Business and President of the Health Law Society.  Prior to joining Nexsen Pruet, Mr. Jackson clerked for The Hon. J. Ernest Kinard of the Fifth Judicial Circuit in Richland County. 

Mr. Jackson is licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina, and is a member of the North Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Bar, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He is a frequent author and presenter on a variety of health care topics.

Tim Hewson and Wes Jackson of the firm's Columbia office presented "Pay-for-Performance," a new method of reimbursement being tested by Medicare and other private payers. The presentation was to the South Carolina Healthcare Managers Association and was given at Palmetto Health Baptist.
