Travis Wheeler

Travis C. Wheeler is a member of the firm and practices with the antitrust team.

Mr. Wheeler has experience in antitrust, trade regulation, and other complex commercial litigation and has represented clients in various antitrust, white-collar criminal, appellate, local governmental, and constitutional matters. 

Outside of antitrust and trade regulation, Mr. Wheeler has also first-chaired a defense in a week-long defamation trial in federal court.  In addition, he services clients in white-collar criminal investigations.  Mr. Wheeler also regularly prosecutes, pro bono, criminal domestic violence cases before juries in Orangeburg, Kershaw, and Sumter counties. 

Mr. Wheeler also has experience in local government, election, and constitutional matters.  He was part of a team that challenged a mayoral primary result.  He has challenged special legislation targeting individual special purpose districts in violation of the South Carolina Constitution, and he currently represents corporate clients in disputes with governmental entities.

Previously, Mr. Wheeler was with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, where he concentrated his practice in business and commercial litigation. He has also practiced antitrust law with Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C. and clerked for the Honorable Reynaldo G. Garza of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Mr. Wheeler received a B.A. in Government from Wofford College, where he graduated summa cum laude.  He received his law degree from Duke University School of Law, with high honors.  In law school, he served as an Articles Editor and Notes and Special Projects Editor for Law & Contemporary Problems, in which his note, "An Economic Analysis of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act" was published.  He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif.

Outside his practice, Mr. Wheeler served as President of the Rosewood Community Council in 2007 and 2008 and remains on the Executive Board.  He is also Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation.  In addition, Mr. Wheeler is an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he teaches Antitrust Law.

Mr. Wheeler’s antitrust experience includes:

• Representing a corporate defendant in criminal federal investigation into alleged price-fixing.
• Representation of 17 direct purchasers of polyester staple fiber in price-fixing litigation.
• Representation of client in transportation industry in civil action alleging price-fixing of fuel surcharges.
• Counseling clients on antitrust issues and drafting corporate antitrust compliance policies.
• Conducting antitrust compliance training on-site for corporate clients.
