Lawrence Melton practices primarily in the construction law group. Mr. Melton is also teaching a class in Construction Law and Litigation at the University of South Carolina Law School.
Since 1977 Mr. Melton has been involved in general civil litigation with an emphasis on construction and defense procurement.
Mr. Melton's litigation experience has exposed him to a wide variety of projects and technical fields, including, tunnels, dams, sewerage treatment plants, satellites, cruise missiles, geotechnical engineering, aerospace safety and HVAC design and installation. Mr. Melton has also served as Ombudsman for the Army and the Air Force.
Mr. Melton came to Nexsen Pruet from Washington, DC, where he practiced for 20 years. He has presented seminars to the United States Department of Transportation and the SBA. He has also lectured on Insurance Law, Recovery against Design Professionals and conducted an Advanced Claims Seminar.
He attended Washington and Lee University School of Law where he was a Note and Comment Editor for the law review.
Mr. Melton's publications include Co-Author, "State-by-State Guide to Architect, Engineer and Contractor Licensing," District of Columbia, Aspen Law Publishing. Mr. Melton is also the author of South Carolina Construction Law, a book available from HLK Global Communications in Vienna, Virginia.
