Daniel C. Leonardi is a member of the firm's intellectual property group. Mr. Leonardi concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property and commercial litigation and also has experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications. Mr. Leonardi earned his J.D. at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he served as Executive Editor of the Journal of College and University Law.
Practice and Firm Involvement
In the intellectual property field, Mr. Leonardi has represented a variety of clients ranging from large corporations to individual inventors in matters ranging from patent infringement actions in federal court to trademark oppositions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. In the commercial litigation arena, Mr. Leonardi has extensive experience in product liability actions, including medical device and pharmaceutical cases, as well as complex class actions. Mr. Leonardi also serves on the firm's recruiting and retention committee.
Prior Legal Experience
Before coming to Nexsen Pruet, Mr. Leonardi served two years as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Joseph F. Anderson, Jr., Chief United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina. Mr. Leonardi also served as an Adjunct Professor of legal writing at the University of South Carolina School of Law and has prosecuted criminal domestic violence cases as a Special Assistant Attorney General.
Community Involvement Mr. Leonardi is currently a Fellow of the Nanotechnology Community Presented by the NanoCenter at the University of South Carolina. Mr. Leonardi also serves on the Public Service Committee of the Richland County Bar Association, where he assists the Bar in providing legal assistance to Columbia’s homeless community, and on the Board of Directors of The Navigator Corporation and Birthright of Columbia. Mr. Leonardi has also served on the Shandon Neighborhood Council and as the Race Director for the Shandon Turkey Trot. Mr. Leonardi, his wife, and two children attend St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The Leonardis, residents of downtown Columbia, are small-flock urban chicken farmers.
