Bob Coble Awarded Prestigious Order of The Palmetto

Bob Coble, a Member (partner) in Nexsen Pruet’s Columbia office, has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor given by the governor of South Carolina.

Coble, who has served as mayor of the City of Columbia since 1990, received the award from State Sen. John Courson and State Rep. James Smith, who presented it during Coble’s last City Council meeting on the evening of June 24th.

Coble has a longstanding commitment to the improvement and well-being of the Midlands, and is actively involved with the Central Carolina Economic Development Alliance.

His other honors include:

The Vision Award from EngenuitySC, a public-private partnership focused on the knowledge-based economy in the Columbia region; the 2009 Woodrow Wilson Award for Leadership in Historic Preservation; Ambassador of the Year honors from the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce; Regional Leadership Award from the Central Midlands Council of Governments; and the Knowledge Economist Award from the South Carolina Research authority.

He is also an inductee into the Richland School District One Hall of Fame and earned the Compleat Lawyer Platinum Award, which the University of South Carolina Law School gives annually to attorneys with 30 or more years of experience in recognition of their contributions to the legal profession and high standards of competence, ethics and integrity.

The Order of the Palmetto was created in 1971 by then-Governor John West to recognize lifetime achievement and service. It reads, in part: “In grateful recognition of your contributions and friendship to the State of South Carolina and her people.”
